Stereotypes: Poetry and Rap Workshop with ‘Poetic Pilgrimage’

10. Juni 2011

The role of poetry and music as means of self-expression and social interaction are at the centre of this workshop in English. University and high-school students are invited to engage in a debate about the effects of stereotypes in our society, and to turn their opinions into spoken-word poems and/or rap songs.

The workshop is conducted by the British female artists Poetic Pilgrimage. As Muslims of Jamaican and African origins, Poetic Pilgrimage incorporate a multicultural image of Europe. In their poetry and music they address topics of immigration, racism, gender, religion, social justice on a world scale and intercultural communication.
In the evening the artists will give a concert open to all Konstanz citizens in the Kulturzentrum am Münster, in which the workshop participants are invited to perform their poems and songs.

The workshop is limited to 30 participants, including students from the University of Konstanz and high-school students with an interest in lively discussions, rap and poetry. Working language is English.
