The Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS)
ACUNS is a professional association of nearly 800 educational and research institutions and individual scholars, teachers, and practitioners active in the work and study of multilateral relations, global governance, and international cooperation. Through its activities, ACUNS promote teaching, research, and dialogue on a range of issues related to the United Nations system. Its field offices in Delhi, Geneva, New York, and Vienna, in addition to members located in over 50 countries, make ACUNS a global network.
Being active within ACUNS allows direct contact with many highly renowned academics and practitioners and makes it possible to invite them as guest scholars or for lectures. In addition, it is a very good possibility to enhance the international network of the IACM program and use the ACUNS contacts for addressing many UN institutions.
Another benefit for junior researchers and advanced graduate students is the chance to present papers or parts of their research in front of a high profile body of experienced academics and practitioners. A very strong recommendation to our students is the participation in the yearly summer workshops organized by ACUNS and its partners.

German Association for Peace and Conflict Research (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung, AFK)
The AFK is a scientific association founded in 1968 by peace researchers from different disciplines of German-speaking countries. The AFK promotes scientific research that contributes to a deeper understanding of the causes of peace and war; and should be the basis for a peace-oriented political practice. Through the annual AFK colloquium it encourages research projects. Furthermore, through the establishment of study groups on issues of peace and conflict research the AFK coordinates cooperation and common projects or publications of different scholars. In addition, the AFK represents the interests of peace and conflict research in science funding bodies, as well as in the public and in the political arena.
The department of politics and management of the University of Konstanz is an institutional member of the AFK. Due to the nature of the topic most of the actual work with the AFK is done by the teaching and administrational staff of the IACM program. Through the AFK and especially its working group on curricula, the IACM program is involved in a steady exchange with other related programs in Germany. This allows a continuous evaluation and feedback on teaching methods and contents, which helps to maintain a high quality of teaching in Konstanz.
A direct advantage for the IACM students is the junior research section of the AFK. Within this framework active networking is being done and regular conferences and workshops provide many possibilities to present research work and progress and receive helpful criticism. Furthermore, the cooperation and exchange in the AFK frameworks ensures a good monitoring of recent developments in teaching and teaching methods, peace and conflict studies and in the field. This supports the maintaining of high level education within the IACM program.
