The professorship represents a culture-scientific approach to literary science which pays special attention to the relationship between the literary text and the knowledge of the societies in which these texts arose and on which they in turn have an effect.

In this connection the research project “Fray Servando Teresa de Mier: a revision of transatlantic discourse between colony and independence” inquires into the complex role of literature between Europe and Latin America at the turn of the 18^th to the 19^th century.
