Between 2007 and 2019, the Institute for Advanced Study Konstanz invited professors as well as young scholars having completed their PhD to work on or finish their current research project. The Institute closed in July 2019, an application isn't possible anymore.

Fellowships

Three sorts of applications were possible:

  1. Internal applications: Qualified applicants were scholars at the University of Konstanz.
  2. Nominations for external candidates could be made by members or cooperative partners of the Center; external scholars could not apply individually.
  3. Fellowships for qualified postdoctoral candidates were announced annually.

Invited fellows received a stipend for a specified period, as a usual six months to a year, together with rental and (when appropriate) family subsidies. As an alternative, replacement costs were be granted to the fellow’s home university. To qualify for the stipend, completion of all doctoral work was required.

Visiting Scholars

Alongside five- to ten-month fellowships, the Institute also offered the possibility of guest stays. Two types of stay were possible:

  1. Guests invited to the Institute for a three-week to three-month period, and who worked during this time on a project positively evaluated by the Center’s committees and financed by the Center. Otherwise than is the case with fellowships, in principle an extension of the guest stay was possible upon application.
  2. Guests who arrived at their own expense and who were institutionally integrated into the Institute in agreement with the Center. If necessary, committee-decisions were requested.

Partners of fellows who themselves engaged in scholarly work were likewise invited to make use of the Institute’s infrastructure.
